When the corpse of a seven-month-old infant was discovered in the ashes of a black parishioners’ torched church in Purdy, lawyer Vernon King decides to defend the man accused of the crime. After the FBI arrests Vernon’s neighbor; the dairy farmer Bill Wall for arson, King takes the case, although he’s had little trial experience. He’s soon horrified by the FBI agents’ overt dislike of Southerners, and with the help of a former high school classmate and federal agent, he sets out to uncover the truth. Kean, an attorney who has worked as a government investigator, provides thorough descriptions of the trial proceedings and agency investigations, but he is unable to fashion his material into a suspenseful narrative.

The very first thing that came into my head when I finished reading this book is why. The book kept me wondering why did it happen, why did someone has to die, and a couple of more whys. But putting the whys aside, this book specifically tells the reader that race relations is still a big issue, and it also tells us that friendship and protective family ties is way important than any other things.

Black Beauty spends his youth in a loving home, surrounded by friends and cared for by his owners. But when circumstances change, he learns that not all humans are so kind. Passed from hand to hand, Black Beauty witnesses love and cruelty, wealth and poverty, friendship and hardship… Will the handsome horse ever find a happy and lasting home? Carefully retold in clear contemporary language, and presented with delightful illustrations, these favorite classic stories capture the heart and imagination of young readers. By retelling the story in a shorter, simpler form, these books become highly engaging for children, and the color illustrations help with both comprehension and interest level. Black Beauty is part of a collectible series that has strong gift appeal.

This book is an autobiography of a horse named Black Beauty, where he shares the story of a horse's life. As an animal lover myself; heck I even wished to have a horse of my own when I was young, the story is really touching and moving. Although the market of the book is children and young adults, it doesn’t matter so long as you’re an animal lover.

Anne Frank's extraordinary diary, written in the Amsterdam attic where she and her family hid from the Nazis for two years, has become a world classic and a timeless testament to the human spirit. Now, in a new edition enriched by many passages originally withheld by her father, we meet an Anne more real, more human, and more vital than ever. Here she is first and foremost a teenage girl—stubbornly honest, touchingly vulnerable, in love with life. She imparts her deeply secret world of soul-searching and hungering for affection, rebellious clashes with her mother, romance and newly discovered sexuality, and wry, candid observations of her companions. Facing hunger, fear of discovery and death, and the petty frustrations of such confined quarters, Anne writes with adult wisdom and views beyond her years. Her story is that of every teenager, lived out in conditions few teenagers have ever known.

The Diary of a Young Girl is a translated version of Anne Frank's diary; set from the time with the Germans occupying Holland up until the Franks and the Van Daans' hideout, the "Secret Annexe" was discovered by the Gestapo in which she spent the last years of her life.
